The first day here we headed over to the Fortress. Collin and I paid for the basic tickets and we were able to see some amazing views from the walls. We are both constantly in awe over how much history is in Europe. It reminds me of being back in Maryland having all that history at my finger tips. Anyways, the fortress was very cool! They had a free audio tour for part of the fortress that went over a few of the different rooms as well as led us to a different look out. We went to the steps and garden where part of the wonderful Sound of Music was filmed. Not going to lie I have been humming and singing the songs from that movie this whole entire time. But hey, when in Salzburg... since we arrived on a Sunday which was also Mother’s Day, a lot of things were closed. The streets were pretty peaceful and it was nice just wandering. Collin and I found a trail that went up the mountain directly across from the Fortress and honestly I think that was one of the best views!! Collin has been keeping track of how many miles we walk and the first day here we walked 11+ miles and climbed 124 flights of stairs!!! Today we have walked 13.2 miles but only 19 flights of stairs. The trail was absolutely gorgeous. Part of the way we felt like we were in the deep dark woods miles from civilization. It was nice because it was raining, so we were saved from rain by the trees. The trail also met up with the old wall around the city and we spent a bit of the trail just following that chunk of history. Our little hotel room had windows in the ceiling that we had opened before we went out not realizing that it was supposed to rain. When we finally got back part of the bed was quite wet. 😂 The windows were really nice to look at the stars when the rain finally cleared out.
Today we took a trip to Hellbrunn Palace. We decided to walk over since it was only a couple miles away. The walk was absolutely gorgeous. They have a little bike/walking trail leading from the city all the way to the palace through fields of wildflowers, farms, and near these adorable cottages. Sadly my allergies have been so bad here so I was sneezing almost the whole time. 😑 At Hellbrunn palace we saw the Sound of Music gazebo and of course sang again. The grounds and park surrounding the gazebo are breathtaking. Collin and I spent a good chunk of time walking through the grounds. They had a few workout areas that Collin was loving. There was also a zip line thing that we had to do a couple times each.
After we got back from the Palace it started raining. It was kind of nice walking around without all the tourists groups. We tried to go to the dwarf garden today but it was closed. I was looking forward to seeing the little guys.
I couldn’t find any milk chocolate motzart balls, I’m sorry mom! But I think I have eaten my weight in pistachio ice cream and pastries. We have had a lot of fun here in Salzburg. But it’s onto Venice!! ✌🏽
These are a few of my favorite things.....do, re,me, fa, so.la, te, do!!! Adleweis....I am 16 going on 17....I'm singing all the songs!!! What a beautiful adventure!!
