Berlin

Berlin...was, interesting... I was surprised at how dirty and grey it was. We saw some cool pretty buildings and it’s amazing how much history is in this city. It seems as if the city is still somber and reflecting on the past. It blew my mind that we were in a few of the same places as Hitler!! We saw the Berlin Wall memorial as well as the East Side Gallery. The East Side Gallery was one of the few things that I HAD to see while we were here. I loved the artwork. We saw the Berlin Cathedral and the Charlottenburg palace. Check point Charlie is a tourist trap. It cost people 3-5€ for a picture in front of it!! It was still cool to see though. Collin and I were both so tired from all this constant traveling that we spent a lot of time taking naps in our AirBnb, naps meaning sleeping from 5pm to 8:30 am the next morning. She was so nice to let us stay until later at night so we didn’t have to carry our bags everywhere today. Her apartment was right near a lake, which was nice to walk around early this morning.

We learned a very important lesson on our trip here. Our AirBnb was in a typical European apartment building where you need to be rang in to get to the door to your section of the apartment where you walk up 100000000 stairs to have to unlock your door. Anyways, last night we decided to go out and grab a snack, we got back to the apartment and the door would not open. We tried and tried and tried and tried and it would not budge. We had bought ice cream and it was melting, we thought we would have to sleep in the stairwell. Just all this bad situations. I had to turn my data on to try to send a text to the owner letting her know the door wouldn’t open, only for her not to respond. I tried the international SIM card my boss had given me, which had no data left on. 😑 so that didn’t work. Finally after about 30 minutes the downstairs neighbor was leaving her apartment and Collin flagged her down asking if she could help us. Thank god she spoke English and was actually nice! (Not too many people have been nice or spoke any English) but she came up to the door and opened it in two seconds. Apparently the doors are weird and you have to jiggle the key while pulling on the door. Needless to say, we got stressed out. Collin kept trying to open the door with me inside, just trying to figure it out and still couldn’t. 😂 we were never so happy to be inside an apartment as we were after that moment. 

Berlin was much cheaper than Amsterdam so we ate a good amount of food for cheap. Also, the train/bus/metro is very convenient and only costs 7€ a day for unlimited use!! We might have cheated the system and only bought a pass for one day instead of two.... but believe me, it got stressful when people randomly came by asking for tickets when ours had expired hours before. 😬😬 I wouldn’t recommend doing that... but because of how simple and efficient the public transportation system was to use we visited plenty of different places just because we could. Collin and I joked that if we didn’t want to keep walking anywhere we’d just ride the metro back and forth a bunch of times. Haha 

We are currently on the bus to Salzburg and cannot wait to check out Austria! ✌🏽
